HARRISBURG – Rep. Bob Brooks (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) today announced that he has obtained $120,000 in state grants for much-needed improvement projects in the 54th Legislative District.
The grants are made possible through the Gaming Economic Development Fund (GEDF), which funds community projects across the Commonwealth through a tax assessed on slot games in casinos. The GEDF is administered by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (RAAC). It is intended to provide financial assistance to entities to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.
“During these challenging times, maintaining our infrastructure is vital for a strong community,” said Brooks. “We need to do everything in our power to ensure that they are getting the best services possible. Beautification, safety and access is very important because the physical look and quality of amenities in a town reflect a community’s pride and commitment to each other.”
Municipalities receiving a GEDF grant include:
• West Deer Township - $100,000 for renovations to Bairdford Park. The renovations will include the wall behind the baseball field, stormwater improvements, installation of security cameras and pavilion renovations.
• Fawn Township - $20,000 to pave the Sun Mine Road and to add guiderails. The road surface of Sun Mine Road has deteriorated to where it has become a safety issue for residents who live along it and to the businesses that are located in this area.
“I’m happy the county recognized the value in these projects,” said Brooks. “No doubt, this grant will improve our roadways, help to remediate flood waters and play a role to boost the economy by bringing residents of neighboring communities into the area.”
The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages. The CFA holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
