HARRISBURG – Rep. Bob Brooks (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) today issued the following statement commending UPMC and Highmark for reaching a new 10-year, in network agreement.

“I am especially pleased that Highmark/UPMC have fully worked out their differences and have done what is right for the people of western Pennsylvania. I thank those involved for getting the job done through a lot of hard work. The quality of health care for our residents is the top priority, and I am glad that this has been realized by all involved.”

UPMC is western Pennsylvania’s largest hospital and physician network, and Highmark controls 65 percent of the region’s health insurance market. The current contract between the two agencies was set to expire June 30.
