HARRISBURG – Rep. Bob Brooks (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) today announced that he has obtained $309,411 in state grants for much-needed improvement projects in West Deer Township.

The grants are made possible through the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund (GEDTF), which funds community projects across the Commonwealth through a tax assessed on slot games in casinos. The GEDTF is administered by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (RAAC). It is intended to provide financial assistance to entities to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.

“I am pleased that tax dollars are returning to our communities to help fund these important projects,” said Brooks. “We must do everything in our power to keep people safe and secure, as well as giving everyone the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle.”

Organizations receiving a GEDTF grant include:
West Deer Township Volunteer Company No. 3 - $250,000 for the renovation of an existing vacant commercial building for use as a fire station. The project includes electrical and plumbing work revisions, installation of a fire sprinkler system, enclosing an existing 4,900-square-foot canopy in the rear of the building and installation of an emergency backup generator.
West Deer Township - $59,411 for a continuation of a park master plan for both West Deer’s Nike Site Park and Bairdford Park. The focus is the Bairdford Park Phase “A” potion of the park master plan, and will include the renovation and reconfiguration of a playing court area; a new dek hockey court; the addition of handicap parking areas and walkways; a reconfigured and optimized parking lot; and new bleachers for the section of the park.

“Each of these projects represents an important investment in the safety and health of our community,” said Brooks.
