HARRISBURG – Lower Burrell will receive $50,000 to assist with the Veterans Central Park improvement project in a grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), Rep. Bob Brooks (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) announced today.
The goals of the project include repair, update and improvement of Veterans Central Park. The park is central to downtown and has easy walkable access. The two existing tennis courts have cracks in them; walkable trails around the park are overgrown and worn down; outdated and damaged playground equipment needs to be replaced; and some drainage issues around the park need to be repaired for proper drainage.
“I’m pleased to know that funding for this project has been secured,” said Brooks. “It will help repair and make this area function more efficiently and encourage further economic development in our district for the future.”
In addition, funds will be used to seal and install a new surface on the tennis courts, purchase new equipment for the courts to make them multipurpose, add stone to the park trails, purchase and install new playground equipment, and repair the damage and remove debris from the drainage system.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth and holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
The 54th Legislative District includes the townships of Fawn, West Deer and part of Harrison in Allegheny County; and also in Westmoreland County, the boroughs of Export, Lower Burrell and Murrysville; along with the townships of Allegheny, Upper Burrell and part of Penn.
